I have a Dream!
When one becomes engaged, it is inevitable that you start to really think about the future. Of course the wedding has been on my mind, and all the planning that entails, but I've also been meditating on what comes after all that. Where will we live, will I have a car by then, how will we manage money, how much does one need to budget for food? All these things I'm sure we'll figure out in due time I'm sure. But like everyone else, I have some of 'those' plans. You know the kind, the ones that you say that you plan to do in that mysterious time period of 'one day'. For some people its a vacation, or to organize all those family photos. For me it is to have my own freelance graphic design business.
"But Ashley, you already are a graphic designer, how hard could it be?"
Well mysterious person on my blog, it's freaking hard. There are so many things to figure out! First you need an identity, which let me tell you, is a very daunting task. Any designer will tell you the same thing for this reason, you are your own worst critic. And because you are in control of your own deadline, it's so easy to push it back in favour of other, more fun pursuits. How do you know when the logo is done? Does it correctly represent me? Is that colour even appropriate? Maybe I should try a different font…. or add some penguins….
It never ends, and it makes it so easy to keep pushing your dream back to that 'one day' plan.
Well No More!!! Starting….well.. three days ago, I decided in a furious bout of inspiration that this was the year. 2013 is the year that everything changes, I'm going to get my own car, I'm moving away from home, I'm getting married! Why shouldn't this be the year I start my own business? I feel very good about this! And I've decided to document the process as much as I can here on this blog to help keep myself motivated. Here we go!
