Whats Art?

I’ve mentioned on this blog before the topic of street art, and how my opinion of it differs from that of my Dads. Dad believes that any graffiti is bad, because its breaking the law, and how it makes a neighborhood look. I maintain that not all street art is bad, and that even in the case where it is breaking the law it Is still art. I’m not saying that its right, but its still art. And in some cases it can be beautiful, or inspiring. Most of the time it makes me think about what I’m looking at. And today I found out that in the states a museum is hosting the first ever exhibit of street art.

“Today, we witnessed history being made. As the very first major U.S. museum exhibition of graffiti and street art, MOCA presented the media preview of Art in the Streets, an epic visual feast you must experience for yourself! Tracing the development of graffiti and street art from the '70s to where it is today, MOCA pulled out all the stops - educating us on the rich history, entertaining us with their "shows within a show" (live skateboarding, a re-creation of an urban street, etc) and inspiring us to find the artist within ourselves.”

    For anyone, no matter how talented, to deface a private or public piece of property is a crime. Plain and simple. You can dress it up all you want by calling them "urban artists" in reality they are petty criminals who make our shared landscape a sadder,dirtier place. No different than someone littering or defecating in public.

    Where's the line? A wall in a back lane? A storefront door or window? The side of your newly bought car? The Henry Moore sculpture at Nathan Phillips Square?

    All graffiti is bad graffiti.

As a relatively self aware person, I’ve always been aware of how lucky I am to have a mother who has a passion for cooking. Growing up we never had a Chicken Tuesday, or Meatloaf Fridays. Other than Sunday dinners, you could never predict what you would be eating the next night. Although you could assume that it was going to be unique, and delicious! Unfortunately, upon reaching university, and subsequently reaching my own tiny share of a kitchen, I discovered a horrible fact. I didn’t know how to cook ANYTHING. Crossroads

The second half of my life will be black to the white rind of the old and fading moon. The second half of my life will be water over the cracked floor of these desert years. I will land on my feet this time, knowing at least two languages and who my friends are. I will dress for the occasion, and my hair shall be whatever color I please. Everyone will go on celebrating the old birthday, counting the years as usual, but I will count myself new from this inception, this imprint of my own desire. Warming up

I was planning that next year I would do the 365 photo project, (For reference to what this is, please see here ) Its a huge project, and its probably a little crazy since I have so much going on next year, but if I'm going to be taking a picture every day for a year, why not the year I'm getting married!? But in preparation for this enormous endeavour, I've decided to do some warm up exercises in the  form of a guided one month photo challenge. For the full description of this event, look here . But in short, for every day there is a prompt or theme for a photo that I will take and upload, as seen below... Unfortunetly, I got home way later than I thought I would tonight, and it is now actually tomorrow, and no longer December 1st. So I'm off to a late start but this is why its practice! So here we go! Day 1: Self portrait. (not actually taken today but again, this is practice!!! )
